Philosophy and sustainability: “Old Wood, New Life”

With over twenty years of experience, dBodhi is renowned for using reclaimed wood and organic materials like coconut leaf fibre and banana leaf. The wood they work with comes from old Javanese houses, traditionally dismantled after three generations. “This way, we give the wood a second life in the form of unique, handcrafted furniture,” explains stylist Yvet. Sustainability is in their DNA. The brand strives for plastic-free packaging and offsets transport emissions by planting trees through Trees for Trees. Their core principle is simple: respect for nature and balancing what they take with what they give back.

Craftsmanship and creativity
From carefully sourced materials to hand-finished details, every dBodhi product tells a unique story. “For us, craftsmanship is the most beautiful thing. Handwork is not just a process; it’s an art form,” Yvet explains. This artistry comes alive in collections like Hopper, where the use of coconut leaf fibre adds a playful yet refined touch to the designs.

Designing a new collection is a dynamic process: “We start with inspiration from fairs, places, and objects we encounter. What begins as a sketch quickly becomes a sample, thanks to our flexible team in Indonesia. Within a week, we see the first results.”

Storytelling through photography
dBodhi believes in storytelling, not just through their products but also through evocative imagery. Their choice to shoot frequently at Atelier Oost Amsterdam is deliberate: “We wanted a location that enhances the natural look of our furniture, and Atelier Oost proved ideal. The light floors, clay-like walls, and playful colour options perfectly align with our vision.”

Yvet also highlights the practical advantages of a daylight studio

: “With multi-day shoots, we can efficiently capture several collections and colour variations. The spacious, ground-level location in central Amsterdam, combined with parking options and flexibility, makes a huge difference.”
