Timeless yogawear in natural light – Spica at The Livingroom

The Livingroom and yogawear—it's a golden combination. This luxurious daylight studio, bathed in magical natural light, offers a warm cocoon for endless creative possibilities. Thanks to its intimate setting, this stunning space is ideal for productions by conscious, small to mid-sized brands. Spica is one such brand, and we sat down with founder Basak to talk about her vision, the story behind her beautiful label, and of course, her experience with The Livingroom.

Conscious fashion that supports - from mat to moment

Let’s start at the beginning. Spica was born from a deep need for calm, space, and awareness—values that Basak had long been missing in her corporate role as a marketing manager. The contrast between the hectic pace of her job and the stillness of her yoga mat ultimately sparked an idea. An idea that grew into a mindful clothing line: activewear that moves, breathes, and connects. “I realised during a yoga class that I was more focused on adjusting my clothes than on my breath,” Basak recalls. “That was the moment I knew—this has to change.”

Spica is yogawear that feels like a second skin, designed to support, not distract. Each piece in the collection is created with the belief that how we feel in our clothing directly impacts how we move, think, and show up. “Our clothes offer comfort without compromise,” says Basak. “But above all, we want to remind women of their strength—both physical and emotional. That they have the right to take up space, to move freely, to be themselves.”

The connection between mindset and movement
What you wear on the mat matters. But for Spica, it’s about more than just the physical—it’s about the mental. About letting go, creating space, and most of all: finding your way back to yourself. “Movement is a mental reset for me,” Basak explains. “Whether you practise yoga, go for a walk or simply stretch, it brings you back to your centre. Our clothing supports that process—it's soft, flexible, and present without demanding attention.”

From the design process to production, Spica breathes conscious fashion. For Basak, sustainability goes beyond organic fabrics or recycled fibres—it’s about intention. “Every step counts,” she emphasises. “We produce in small batches, design timelessly, and choose our collaborators with care. Conscious fashion is slow, personal, and meaningful.”

When asked which item from her collection is essential, Basak doesn’t hesitate: the Surya Comfort Legging. “This legging is a favourite for a reason. The fabric feels like butter, moulds to your body, and moves with you—whether you're on the mat, on the go, or curled up on the sofa. And the colour palette is calm, elegant, and seasonless.”

A photoshoot bathed in natural light and calm energy

Another conscious choice: for the Spica shoot, Basak selected The Livingroom of Atelier Oost Amsterdam. “This studio has that soft, serene energy that immediately felt right,” she explains. “The natural lightthe balance between texture and warmth, the attention to detail—it all aligned with our collection and philosophy.” The studio’s natural light added an extra dimension to the shoot. “The sun on the fabrics, the way movement was captured, the calmness of the process—it all felt real, unforced. As if everything just clicked into place.”

In a world that moves faster every day, Basak stays true to her own rhythm. She finds inspiration in simplicity: movement, nature, conversations. But most of all, in slowing down. “Inspiration often only comes when you allow yourself the time. Not everything needs to be productive. Sometimes, the power lies in the pause.”
