A strategy for authenticity<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cFor me, personal branding photography is all about capturing the story behind the entrepreneur,\u201d <\/i>Annemarije begins. \u201cIt always starts with an in-depth strategy session. I ask countless questions to understand who they are, how their business operates, and what message they want to convey. Often, this makes my clients reflect on aspects they hadn\u2019t considered before. From that session, a visual concept emerges, which we refine together. This ensures that the photoshoot truly aligns with who they are.\u201d<\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFrom concept to creation<\/b>
\nHow does a photoshoot take shape? Annemarije breaks down the process: \u201cAfter the strategy session, we dive into the details. For instance, we create a Pinterest board to visualise the look and feel. This helps my clients concretely identify what appeals to them. Then, we choose a location that enhances their story and discuss clothing, props, and even potential extras.\u201d<\/i>\n

\nHow Annemarije, together with a client, determines the style, vibe and colours of the final shoot? 'From my client's stories, I immediately have an image in my head. I then translate this image into a physical picture, so the client can feel whether this is actually what he or she means. I show examples of, for example colour use<\/a> and the differences between business and more casual attire. During the shoot, I am constantly fine-tuning: clients watch on my camera and we fine-tune where necessary. It really is a collaboration.\u2019<\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAnnemarije emphasises the importance of building a good rapport with her clients, especially those who are unaccustomed to being in front of the camera. \u2018I often start with safe photos, like situations where someone is at work. That feels more natural. Slowly we build up to more posed images. I guide them step by step so they feel relaxed. What I often hear is that clients like the fact that I guide so much. To me, that's natural, but it turns out it's not so common after all!\u2019<\/i>\n

Locations as sources of inspiration<\/h2>\nOne key to a successful shoot, Annemarije reveals, is the choice of location. \u201cThe studios at Atelier Oost Amsterdam were amazing. The light is exceptional \u2013 which isn\u2019t always the case with daylight studios. The spaces are also stylishly designed, with beautiful furniture and props that add an instant touch of luxury. A great location doesn\u2019t just make a shoot easier; it also ensures the photos remain relevant for a longer time.\u201d<\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\nFor Annemarije, personal branding photography is much more than creating beautiful images. \u201cI want women to see how beautiful they are through my eyes. Not the things they feel self-conscious about, like a double chin or a wrinkle, but their strength and presence. For me, it\u2019s an informal collaboration that often sparks a personal transformation.\u201d<\/i>

\nDespite the rise of AI-generated images, Annemarije strongly believes in the enduring value of authentic photography. \"AI often feels hollow and impersonal. Ultimately, people seek real connections, especially in the business world. Videography is becoming increasingly important because it conveys even more personality. But real people will always be at the core.\u201d<\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A message for aspiring photographers<\/h2>\nIn addition to photographing entrepreneurs, Annemarije also shares her knowledge with aspiring personal branding photographers. Her key advice? \u201cJust do it! Dive in and get hands-on experience. Invest in courses and learn from those who are already creating the work you admire. My education at the Photographic Academy was valuable, but the workshops with other photographers taught me the most. Ultimately, it\u2019s about daring, experimenting, and growing.\u201d<\/i>
